What is courage?

But courage isn’t always big gestures. Sometimes it’s just facing our fears and making the right choice, even when it’s easier to avoid the challenge. Remember, what’s right isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it for us, our communities, and the world.

This maiden Volume of the Portraits of Africa Series includes remarkable stories and courage of persons in African history who have stood against injustices, on behalf of others and sometimes suffered for it, but ultimately, to the good of others.

The Portraits of Africa series celebrates both well-known and lesser-known figures—African individuals who have lived remarkable lives. Our goal is to connect children with their rich heritage, teaching them about people who have modeled some of these values, faced challenges and rose above them.
